Johnny 'El Coco' Cruz is a Marine veteran and member of the Mayans Motorcycle Club, Santo Padre charter on Mayans MC, a spinoff of the FX original series Sons of Anarchy. Played by American actor Richard Cabral, Johnny makes his debut in the series' premiere episode, "Perro/Oc", in the series' first season. Playing a recurring role through the same season, he was last seen in the Season 1 finale episode, "Cuervo/Tz'ikb'uul".

Biography[]

Background[]

Johnny is a veteran Marine in the Mayans MC series. He was discharged after demonstrating his marksmanship by using his rifle to shoot a cigar out of an officer's mouth. He later joined the Mayans Motorcycle Club in the city of Santo Padre and is under the command of Obispo Losa.

Cruz was born to a prostitute, with whom he has a severely strained relationship. While Cruz was incarcerated his daughter, Leticia, was born. He insisted she be given up for adoption in an attempt to better her future, but his mother chose to adopt her in an attempt to have a second chance at being a mother (though Cruz believes it was for welfare money). Leticia grew up without knowing Cruz was her father, only knowing him as an older brother, until Cruz's mother revealed her parentage during an argument in "Bat/Zotz".

Season 2[]

Near the end of the season, Coco is shot by Vatos Malditos following a meeting which leaves him injured and almost blind. When the charter evaluates retaliation, he becomes furious at the Mayan Kings for convincing Bishop to decide against attack the VM back as it would imperil the gun trade that other charters would need, effectively putting profit over brotherhood in his view.

Season 3[]

Coco presently suffers from a heroin addiction, which branched from his reliance on painkillers to treat the aftermath of his previous shooting. This addiction has made him more irritable, aggressive, unstable and even lashes at Leticia. It is hinted that he has also secretly sold her belongings as a means to acquire product. He also has flashbacks of his childhood when he used to inject heroin to his mother while she pleaded for him to never become like her.

Trying to secure more oxytocin with a dealer, he finds that he has no more product and that it is handled by a dealer known as Butterfly. Coco subsequently goes to a drug community where he tries to trade Leticia's tablet for oxy, to which Butterfly reluctantly accepted. However, Coco held Butterfly at gun point trying to take all the product for free, despite Butterfly insisting it wouldn't end well. Coco takes the drugs and flees but Butterfly whistles alerting the entire community who pursues Coco. As he tries to escape them his car doesn't turn on as it is smashed and he is dragged out. As he's surrounded and about to be killed, Hope recognizes him and he is knocked unconscious.

He wakes up tied and realizes he has been injected with an unknown substance. Trying to flee from the place he comes face to face with Isaac the community's leader. Coco tries to threaten him with the gun but Isaac is able to turn the tables when Coco was distracted by a drug addict's rants. Isaac gives him a warning and then returns the gun to him. Coco threatens to murder him if he touches him again, horrified at what surrounds him, but Isaac expects his return.

As his addiction worsens, Gilly becomes increasingly frustrated with Coco and warns that he will not cover for him with Bishop. Coco claims he is turning better. During the night a drug transport operation goes horribly wrong when Border Patrol approaches the area. EZ yells at Coco to help unloading the truck before BP arrives. He later returns to the community being drugged by Hope, just as Isaac takes a photo of him.
