Season 5

"Hymn Among the Ruins" is the second episode of season four of Mayans MC, a spinoff of the FX original series Sons of Anarchy, and the series' thirty-second episode overall.

Synopsis[]

The club navigates a tenuous new world order.

Plot[]

A four month time jump takes us post civil war. Nails' pregnancy is coming along, and her and Angel are living together. Angel is still struggling with the loss of his child with Luisa, however. Coco and Hope are looking healthy, with the latter having moved in with Coco and Letty.

Bishop rides in and makes his way in to the clubhouse with a heavy sigh. As he enters, we see many other charters present and his kutte sporting a Vice Presidente flash, having been demoted as Alvarez has returned to be the Presidente of Santo Padre. He sits in his appropriate seat, taking a brief moment to touch the Presidente's chair, as many others filter in and take their place at the table.

At a meeting, the Mayans confirm peace has been made between the various factions, but there's still a ton of tension. An argument ensues about fentanyl being in the Mayans' heroin supply. As they reveal, Canche, who is now in charge of the heroin trade, has massively increased profits. The conversation then turns to Miguel Galindo. No one really knows exactly what happened to Galindo, and they expect the worse. Alvarez, who had been working with Galindo, claims he's dead. Taza soon reveals Santo Padre hasn't been tapped to do anything and is getting frustrated at not having any work. An argument ensues between the various clubs, and Alvarez tells them all to leave.

Outside templo, Manny, the Mayan who EZ threw off the roof during the civil war comes over to talk with him and tries to make peace. He notes that, if they're divided, it's entirely possible someone else will come and destroy them. In the end, EZ and Manny shake hands, indicating he's at least a little won over by the interaction, EZ is clearly impressed with Manny's intellect. Alvarez watches the interaction, and seems pleased.

Gilly and Coco are sent outside to work by Hank, the pair are on probation of sorts, after abandoning the charter during the civil war and Meth Mountain incident. Santo Padre stick together, as Bishop continues to preach his hate almost mindlessly to the other charters. The Santo Padre Mayans around Bishop all confirm that they're with him. Still, Hank and EZ both seem somewhat more reticent.

Outside, we find Coco and Gilly. Their repairs on the clubhouse aren't going particularly well, and they end up fighting, with Gilly blaming Coco for the position he put him in. Creeper approaches Coco and invites him to his NA meeting, knowing Coco has struggled with addiction in the past, Coco brushes him off and he leaves.

EZ returns to his trailer where he finds Felipe outside, tensions still running high between the pair, EZ completely ignores him as Felipe tries to pass a message someone left for him to him. EZ is clearly very bitter about Felipe convincing Gaby to skip town without him.

A change of scenery brings us to the SAMDINO clubhouse. They start talking about Happy, saying Chibs, wants him to return to SAMCRO and the missing Montez. The conversation then turns to the Mayans. Doc, the SAMDINO President insists nothing will be done to the Mayans, despite them having crossed into Sons of Anarchy territory, which is a major offense in the biker world. However, the Vice President, Terry, insists on war.

Angel enters EZ's trailer and the pair discuss Angel's baby arriving soon, Angel laments bout how much money the baby is costing him, before telling EZ that his home is very sad and he should get a dog or something.

Hope also tries to connect with Letty, but she wants nothing to do with her after the damage she did to her family in the previous season.

We return to Coco and Gilly, Coco tries to tell Gilly about his plans for his bike, but Gilly throws his tools on the floor and storms off, telling Coco he put him in this position, and he wouldn't be in it if it wasn't for him, reminding Coco he lied to save him from being kicked out of the club. Coco assures his appreciation for Gilly, as Gilly tells him he can cover for him now.

Taking Angel's advice, EZ goes to adopt a dog from the pound. While he's there, a woman starts talking to him, explaining the psychology of the abandoned dogs at the facility. The general sense of the conversation is that it's harder for humans to get over the things they've been through than dogs when it comes to abandonment. She eventually introduces the dog as Sally, though she doesn't give her own name.

Inside the clubhouse, Jess, is being harassed by the Mayans. Hector compares her to Justin Bieber and questions if any of the club actually want to sleep with her. She storms out, and on her way out of the clubhouse, stumbles upon an obscure barrel, opening it, the contents greatly distress her.

Creeper's NA meeting is going well, he rambles a lot but doesn't really say anything. Outside, one of the women inside approaches him, she introduces herself as Kody. She tells Creeper that she really appreciated what he said inside and understood him.

Later that night, Hope walks home from her shift and sees Letty arguing outside with her boyfriend before exiting his car and cursing him out. Knowing that Letty is going to be gunning for an argument, Hope makes her way inside the house and tries to comfort Letty, telling her she deserves better. Letty thanks her and sarcastically remarks, "words of wisdom from a junkie piece of shit".

Bishop stays in the clubhouse and is later joined by Taza who tells him he will back him whatever he chooses and Alvarez doesn't have the club's best interests in mind. Bishop tells Taza that he is lucky he isn't dead for what he did and he hasn't forgotten.

Terry is later seen with Joker and Hoosier at the SAMDINO clubhouse. He claims that Chibs and Doc are too old and are scared of a war with the Mayans. The other Sons try to talk sense in to him claiming that Doc is right and that the Mayans will take each other out.

Jess, startled by her discovery visits her sister, Jazmine. The two appear to have a very strained relationship but there is a reason why Jess has come to her. She takes out the binbag she pulled from the barrel earlier and Jazmine is also horrified.

Hank visits the home of Alvarez, he has been paying close attention to the other Santo Padre members, he informs Alvarez that a lot of Santo Padre still seem loyal to Bishop. Hank assures Alvarez they need him to lead the club again.

EZ has adopted Sally and bought her back to his trailer, the note Felipe left him earlier, is finally read. It's contents trigger EZ's flashbacks to his time when he was in prison and seemed to stab an inmate to death after being attacked by him. EZ is then taken in by another inmate, who seems to train him and take care of him and many other inmates.

We get the first glimpse in to Emily's new life. She is working as a waitress at a restaurant in Ohio and rides the bus home to her tiny apartment every night. A far cry from the lavish life she lived in Santo Padre.

Taza later does some sort of ritual, similar to what we have seen him doing the day he killed Riz, he cuts off a lock of his hair and burns a photo of the pair of them.

Jazmine, the presumed girlfriend of Terry arrives to speak to him. Before she says anything Terry attempts to explain that "she didn't mean shit to me" before being interrupted. Jazmine leads Terry to Jess, who has come to speak to Terry. Jess takes out a black bag and reveals it's contents to Terry, a burned SAMCRO kutte.

Templo Meetings[]

Hank: Issues at Perryville have been settled. Amends have been made.
Creeper: Fentanyl, it's a fucking cancer.
Gilly: If Yuma keep stomping on this shit, more people are gonna fucking die.
Manny: Man, I feel bad. Obviously we all do, but-
Downer: It can't be a surprise to anyone in this fucking room that a few dead junkies is the price of what we do.
Taza: (laughs) That's a hell of a business strategy. Amazon should start slipping pipe bombs in to their packages.
Angel: Fuck. (laughs) My crib would've blown up ages ago. Like, for real though, like, how much shit does a baby actually need dawg? You know what I mean?
Downer: In the four months since Canche took over, profits are highest they ever been. Four times higher than when you guys were fucking up the pipeline.
Gilly: Tell that to Ticker, last motherfucker to cut our shit.
Downer: Fuck Ticker, and fuck you. You keep crying, but you had your shot when you were Galindo's little bitches.
Manny: (taps Downer to silence him)
Downer: And you fucked that up, right? And now we...
EZ: What about Galindo? His family, we hear anything?
Hank: Even if they made it over the border, there's no way LNG would've let them live this long. The shit I hear about El Banquero... it's dark.
Angel: What, darker than having your lackey throw burning oil on a father and his kid?
Hank: Yeah, darker than that...
Gilly: Fuckin' savages.
Angel: Really hated that French-braided little bitch, man.
Gilly: (chuckles)
Angel: And his stupid-ass fucking yellow glasses, looking like Elton John.
Alvarez: Are you all fucking done? Galindo is dead. LNG, Canche and the Yuma pipeline. That's the new world order.
Taza: It's been months, Padrino. And we haven't even been tapped to do a protection run. It feels as if Santo Padre is being starved out.
Hector: Well, now you know how it feels.
Creeper: Man, shut the fuck up.
Hector: You shut the fuck up!
Gilly: How are we supposed to handle business when Templo ain't nothing but a bunch of spies and snitches!?
Downer: The fuck you calling a snitch, motherfucker?
Gilly: (slams table) Fuck you!
Downer: Fuck you!
Coco: Fuck you!
Coco, Downer and Gilly: (all yell over each other)
Alvarez: (smashes the gavel numerous times) Shut the fuck up! The fuck out. The fuck out!
