Felipe Reyes is a tough guy with a brutal past who goes out of his way to make sure his children return to the right path. He used to work for the Galindo Cartel, despite being member of Mexican Federal Police, until he quit that life and escaped to the USA to start a new life with his lover and future wife, Marisol Reyes.

Season 1[]

"Perro/Oc"[]

We meet Felipe Reyes, father of Ezekiel "EZ" Reyes and Angel Reyes, a humble butcher in the small town of Santo Padre, California. Both of his sons are members of the Mayans Motorcycle Club. EZ arrives at the shop and the pair chat for a while before Angel arrives. EZ also hands Felipe some intel, EZ is working as in informant for the DEA. Felipe makes EZ assure him that Angel doesn't know what is going on and EZ does.

Kevin Jimenez, EZ's handler and DEA agent visits the butcher shop. Felipe gives him EZ's intel and Jimenez demands to speak to EZ tonight. Jimenez is EZ's handler, after he was freed from prison he is supposed to be using the club to gather intel on the Galindo Cartel.

Felipe summons EZ to talk to Jimenez and listens intently as they argue at the back of his shop. After Jimenez leaves EZ apologises for bringing the whole mess to Felipe but he tells him he shouldn't apologise and he'll always help anyway he can.

"Escorpión/Dzec"[]

Felipe talks to Marisol Reyes, his deceased wife. He laments that he doesn't think he will be able to help EZ in his mission and worries about his son.

EZ later visits Felipe and asks him to set up a meet with Jimenez at the shop later, something has happened but EZ won't divulge any more information than he has to to try and keep Felipe safe. Felipe warns him that he can't get in too deep with Jimenez or he will never stop asking for information. EZ tells Felipe that the rebel group, Los Olvidados are attacking back hard against the cartel and that the previous night they kidnapped the son of Emily Galindo, Emily was EZ's former lover. EZ doesn't want anything bad to happen to the child but Felipe reassures him that he has to power on through and learn to play everyone's corner.

Felipe later organises for Emily to come and meet EZ, he prepares Emily's steak whilst the pair talk about Emily's missing son and who is behind it.

"Búho/Muwan"[]

Jimenez meets with Felipe, he claims he is just checking in and leaves a contact number for Felipe and EZ. Felipe is also suspicious of a van parked on the street opposite his shop.

Later that night Felipe retrieves a sawn-off shotgun from his garage after noticing another suspicious car parked near his home. He approaches the man in the car and holds him at gunpoint demanding to know who he is, the man reveals he is working with Jimenez and was sent down there by him to guard Felipe as it appears the cartel is readying for war. Felipe scoffs at the man and tells him he doesn't need somebody watching him before lowering the gun and leaving.

EZ later arrives at Felipe's house and is soon joined by Angel.

"Bat/Zotz"[]

Felipe is working in his shop when he hears a knocking at the back door. He heads there and finds the same detective that was staking out his home yesterday, he has come to deliver a note from Jimenez. He then claims that EZ needs to call Jimenez but Felipe refuses, explaining at the end of the week EZ will provide more intel as usual. The man continues saying that the cartel appear to be upping their game and so the schedule may need to change. Felipe finishes by telling the man that he hasn't passed Jimenez' new contact information to EZ so if Jimenez has a problem he can speak to Felipe about it.

Felipe heads to the clubhouse to speak to EZ and hands him the note the man dropped off earlier. He explains that the feds think the cartel game is stepping up and as a result have been watching him closely. EZ assures Felipe he will catch up with Jimenez today.

Jimenez meets Felipe with some troubling news, that EZ has said he will go back inside, he refuses to turn on Emily and get her to give up the cartel. Jimenez begs Felipe to help EZ make the right decision but Felipe says that EZ can make his own choices. Felipe tries to leave but Jimenez stops him by exposing secrets about his past, how he used to work for the cartel and that he is an illegal immigrant. Jimenez finishes by telling Felipe to get EZ to flip Emily, or he will expose Felipe's secrets to his sons.

Felipe returns home and unlocks a box in his garage, it contains documentation and photos from his time when he was working for the cartel, his dark past. He adds Jimenez' intel to the box and locks it away again.

"Uch/Opossum"[]

Felipe learns from EZ that Emily has been injured during the chaos at the Santo Padre parade the previous night after a nun was killed. Felipe also tells EZ that if he wants to work Emily on turning over the cartel, he will have to tell the truth about his situation to her, she isn't the same girl he knew years ago. EZ agrees and then leaves. Felipe returns to the butcher shop and retrieves a gun.

Felipe visits a bar and goes to see Jimenez' father. He isn't too interested in speaking about his son.

He later drives to Jimenez' home and takes pictures of his wife and children. He then drives to the station where Jimenez is based, he tells him that he visited his father before handing him information on his real identity, Ignacio Cortina. He asks Jimenez to not make him have to become that man again or he'll ruin everything he loves before driving away as Jimenez yells at him asking what he means.

"Gato/Mis"[]

Felipe exits his house to find Jimenez on his doorstep. He explains that he is taken some holiday time and has sent his wife and children away. He asks Felipe if he would really hurt his family to which Felipe responds with you should never estimate a man's capacity to commit despicable acts which Jimenez explains that it didn't answer his question.

Jimenez and Felipe go inside and Felipe explains more about Ignacio Cortina and how he eventually escaped the life. Both men agree they shouldn't have threatened the other's families. Jimenez reiterates that EZ can quickly take down the cartel but he is just the messenger and doesn't know how high the order comes from. Felipe confirms that EZ wasn't lying, he won't turn on Emily.

"Cucaracha/K'uruch"[]

Felipe hears a noise in his house and goes to investigate, he sees a woman sitting at his table. She takes out a torn photo of Felipe in his younger years with another man and explains its a photo she got from her father's box which he kept in a vent, the same vent where she hid whilst her family was murdered by the cartel. She introduces herself as Adelita, leader of Los Olvidados and Felipe knows who she is. Felipe questions how she found him and Adelita explains that it was due to his sons and their involvement in Los Olvidados. Felipe is frustrated to hear his sons getting involved in that business. Adelita explains that Angel and EZ have no idea she is there and thinks meeting him was a random act. Felipe plays ignorant and demands Adelita explain what she wants.

Adelita explains that in 1988 her father, Pedro, left Mexico to flee to Venezuela where he met Adelita's mother under a new identity, nobody knew who he was. Adelita explains that when she was 6, cartel members attacked the family home and slaughtered everyone. The cartel squad leader explained to Pedro before he was killed that he was betrayed by a close friend. Felipe realises that she thinks he was responsible for selling out Pedro but explains to Adelita she should see something. Adelita questions what this is and he calmly responds that it is the rest of the picture that Adelita had.

Felipe opens a box of his own and takes out a copy of the same picture, where Pedro and Felipe can now be seen posing with three severed heads. Felipe has a host of other pictures of dead cartel victims. He explains that he was not in the cartel but had "sold his soul" to them. He tells Adelita that Marisol was pregnant with Angel and so chose to leave also. Felipe solemnly tells Adelita that he left but Pedro stayed, he didn't have a family and loved the money. He never knew what became of Pedro. Adelita begins to cry and demands to know who else could have betrayed her father. Felipe shows her another picture, one of himself and Pedro with a Bishop called Rodrigo. Rodrigo helped Felipe leave his old life behind and perhaps he did the same for Pedro. Felipe asks Adelita that is she is going to kill him, to not do it in his home. Adelita asks if she can have the picture of the three men and Felipe nods, Adelita goes to leave as the pair apologise to each other. She finally asks Felipe if her father was an animal, Felipe can't look her in the eye as he explains that they didn't start out like that.

"Rata/Ch'o"[]

Felipe heads out to meet Rodrigo. He meets the bishop and they discuss Felipe's family, they haven't met in many years and Rodrigo asks him what is really wrong. Felipe asks what really happened to Pedro Espinda as his daughter visited his home believing that he had sold Pedro out to the cartel. Felipe warns Rodrigo that Luisa Espina will be coming for him and thanks him for getting him out of his old life before proclaiming that they are now even and leaving.

Returning home Felipe finds Jimenez outside. Jimenez orders him to summon EZ immediately.

The trio meet and Jimenez explains that EZ is going to be outed as an informant by Lincoln Potter. He is going to show Miguel that he has never truly been safe and has always been watched, his only choice is to work with the government and do what they demand. EZ refuses to run explaining that Angel will appear to also be in on it and the club and the cartel will also think he is a traitor.

They wait anxiously as EZ returns to the club. EZ soon calls and informs them that his cover isn't blown. Felipe asks if the DEA deal is still on, Jimenez says he doesn't know but if it is, he won't be EZ's handler anymore as he is out of the task force.

"Serpiente/Chikchan"[]

Felipe is awoken by a noise in his home, he arms up and investigated only to discover it is Angel. Angel confronts him about EZ and his DEA deal. Angel believes that EZ has always been the favourite child and Felipe wouldn't do the same things for him he does for EZ. He explains to Felipe the new deal that Potter offered them before quickly leaving once he realises that Potter is going after Los Olvidados.

Felipe brings him around back to the fridge, he asks him why he was stripped of his badge and Jimenez says that he "pissed off the wrong people". He asks more questions about Potter as Jimenez becomes curious. Jimenez assures Felipe that EZ's deal not being blown is a good sign. Felipe reaches for the gun that he has tucked behind his back but becomes emotional as Jimenez talks about his family, he puts the gun down and apologises to Jimenez for wasting his time.

Miguel explains they have that in common, women they love being brutally murdered. Felipe is able to piece it together and realises that Miguel knows he had something to do with Dita's death. He stays silent and this confirms what Miguel is implying. Miguel states that he is grateful he at least knows who killed his mother, while Felipe will never know who killed his wife. He takes out his gun and asks Felipe why he killed Dita and what Emily had to do with it. Felipe explains that Emily didn't have anything to do with Dita's death and it was all him and that he killed Dita. Felipe tells Miguel that he strangled Dita and set her body on fire. Miguel carries on, explaining he is grateful that Felipe has told him at least a part of the truth. Felipe's heart sinks as he learns that Miguel knows there were motorcycle tracks at the scene, confirming EZ and Angel's involvement in the murder. Felipe pleads with Miguel to kill him but not hurt his sons, Miguel refuses asking why he would show mercy to people who have wronged his family so much. Felipe's last card to play is to finally reveal the truth. He tells Miguel that they are his family and "we, are your family". This revelation causes Miguel to lower his gun.

Felipe tells Angel that he has to be a better father than he was, he has failed both his sons and admits to Angel that he has given up on the bloodthirsty EZ.

Felipe takes these to Miguel, who is angry to see him, he reminds him that he told him to never come near him again. Felipe presents the letters to Miguel, claiming that Dita wanted Felipe to know him, and Felipe wants Miguel to know his family. Miguel threatens Felipe, stating if he ever comes to his home again he will kill him. Felipe leaves the letters on the table before driving away.

"My Eyes Filled and Then Closed on the Last of Childhood Tears"[]

Felipe becomes emotional as he thanks Luisa for helping Angel become a better man, but Luisa says he has always been like that deep down. Felipe attempts to tell Luisa to be careful, knowing she is going out on dangerous business but she shushes him. As Luisa turns to leave she reflects with Felipe and states that when she first met Felipe she was intending to kill him, before saying that she is glad she didn't.

Later that night, Felipe heads to a church to pay his respects to Marisol. It is the 12th anniversary of her death. He notices that EZ is already there, it is the first time the pair have seen each other in months. Felipe silently sits opposite EZ.

"To Fear of Death, I Eat the Stars"[]

"Her Blacks Crackle and Drag"[]

Felipe is awoken by a furious pounding on his front door. He groggily opens it and finds Miguel outside, he immediately invites him in. Miguel confronts Felipe about abandoning him as a boy, and allowing another man to raise him as his own son. Felipe tries to reason with Miguel, telling him that Jose was a "bastard" and a terrible person. Miguel notes that at least "that bastard" was there for him, unlike Felipe. Miguel leaves.

Angel later arrives at Felipe's house with Maverick, claiming that he can't be at home anymore without Luisa, who has still not returned. Felipe begins to sadly fear the worst. Felipe tells him that it has always been and always will be his home.

"I Must Go in Now for the Fog Is Rising"[]

Felipe puts Maverick to bed and goes to set the table, Angel has gone out to get food. He hears a thudding on the door and calls out to Angel, telling him that he was fast, he turns to go and see Angel when a deafening gunshot rings out, shattering the window. He dashes to his living room where he sees a man, he opens fire, narrowly missing Felipe. Felipe head whirls as he rolls back the years, his instincts kick in and his blood becomes hot. He kills the lights in his home and hustles to his bedroom, retrieving his revolver from his drawer, and a sawn off shotgun from under his bed. Weapons from his days when working for the Galindo Cartel. Somewhere in the house, he hears a man calling for Angel. Felipe takes the fight to his attackers, he exits his bedroom and fires off a single burst from his shotgun, striking one of the attackers and immediately killing him.

The attackers dive for cover, the same man yelling to Felipe that he is "rude". Felipe fires his revolver at the man, only missing because he ducked out of the way. He retreats behind the wall as the man tells him, they don't want him, they want his son. Out of the corner of Felipe's eye, he spots a shadow emerging from another door, he raises his revolver but the attacker is too quick, he fires a round and it strikes Felipe in the abdomen. His attacker disappears as Felipe limps towards Maverick's room, passing by the living room again, he three more rounds at the attackers as they congregate in the centre of the room, not stopping to see if he struck any of them, he locks the door behind him.

He sees that Maverick has awoken and picks him up, sitting on the floor with him. The door handle twists as Felipe fires off his final two rounds, hoping to hit whoever is on the other side of the door. Felipe slowly drifts away as he hears sirens in the distance fast approaching, causing his attackers to flee the house.
