Ernest Darby was the leader of the Nordics on the FX original series Sons of Anarchy. Played by Italian-American actor Mitch Pileggi, Darby makes his debut in the series' premiere episode, "Pilot", in season one. Playing a recurring role through the series' first, second, third, and sixth seasons, Darby was a major antagonist during the first and second seasons, and was last seen in the season six episode, "Wolfsangel".

Background[]
Darby is the leader of the Nordics, a White supremacist street gang who deal in methamphetamine, and lives in a large suburban home in Charming, California. It is indicated that he had a prior romantic interest in Gemma Teller Morrow, despite her being of partial Jewish heritage. She is the wife of Sons of Anarchy leader Clay. He also served a 3 year prison sentence in Chino, before his release in 2008. He and the Aryan Brotherhood watched over Opie, when he was in for his 5 year stretch for bombing the trucking yard.
He has a number of tattoos, most notably a Swastika and the word 'NORDICS' in the centre of his chest.
Later on in life, Darby realises the error of his ways and after being betrayed by his own organisation, Darby changes his views on life, abandoning his white supremacist ways and becoming an honest man, working a genuine job and even marrying a Mexican woman, proving that his hateful days were long behind him. Darby gets the last laugh on his old friends when he assist SAMCRO in wiping out a sect of them.
Season 1[]
"Pilot"[]
Jackson "Jax" Teller, Vice President and Clarence "Clay" Morrow, President of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original meet up with Whistler and Darby at a diner and tell them to keep drugs out of Charming. A physical almost breaks out when Darby mocks Jax's sick son. Clay reminds Darby that they do not deal in Charming, Darby tries to reason saying that the Nords kept Harry "Opie" Winston, another member of the club safe on the inside but Clay doesn't care. They aren't in prison anymore and SAMCRO control everything. Darby says he is sure they can continue peaceful existence as SAMCRO leave.
"Seeds"[]
Marcus Alvarez, Presidente of the Mayans Motorcycle Club, Oakland charter meets Darby. Darby admits he never should've set the Mayans up to raid the Sons' warehouse. The deal went bad for all of them as both Nords and Mayans were killed when the Sons hit back and destroyed a Mayan warehouse. Darby says he needs some muscle as the Sons are going to be coming for him hard, and he wants them out of Charming. Alvarez says he can assist with that, but he shouldn't do anything drastic, they will both get what they want in the end.
"Fun Town"[]
Darby visits his sick mother at St. Thomas hospital. He exits and is called over by Gemma Teller-Morrow. Darby appears to have had desires to be with Gemma for quite some time, and are still on friendly terms, despite Gemma's Jewish background. Gemma kids him about his mom being treated by Jewish doctors as she sits with him at the hospital. Though he doesn't seem upset by this. The Sons soon arrive and Darby speaks with Clay, Bobby and Tig. He assumes it is due to the recent rape of a young girl. Darby assures the Sons the Nords have nothing to do with it. Clay mentions a name, Johnny Yates. Darby tells him he is no longer affiliated with the Nords after having his nose broken by Whistler. The Sons mock Darby about the disappearance of Whistler, all but confirming they had something to do with it. Clay convinces Darby to give up some intel on Yates just as Hale arrives. Clay tells them to speak to Trammel to try and find Yates' whereabouts.
"Patch Over"[]
He then contacted Marcus Alvarez, the leader of the Mayans who he met in prison. He proposed that they team up to take out the Sons of Anarchy because the Nords want to sell meth in Charming but are unable to because of the SOA, and the SOA sell weapons to the Mayans' rivals. Alvarez refused the offer, but did give his backing by offering Mayan security.
"The Pull"[]
Darby receives a mysterious package in the mail, upon opening it, he finds information about the Sons' gun connectionsDarby decides to try and pull in the Mayans again, he meets with Alvarez and tells Alvarez about the Sons gun operation information he obtained, he believes it is from the ATF. Alvarez is clearly interested with Darby also explaining he knows when, how and where the Sons' guns are coming in. Darby says all he wants from the Mayans is to kill Clay, and then SAMCRO will fall, giving the Nords Charming, the Mayans get the Sons' guns and the Niners heroin trade. Alvarez is still unsure and Darby calls his bluff and walks away, only for Alvarez to call him back and try to reason that it isn't so simple, but Darby insists it is.
Darby spends the night with some women and Nords in a house, he heads to the kitchen to get a drink when he hears gunfire and immediately hits the deck, the attackers murder everyone else inside the house, stealing the ATF information on SAMCRO and their guns. Darby overhears the attackers questioning if the other Nord they killed is him before quickly fleeing.
Darby calls in the homicide at his house, he sits solemnly on the steps as he watches his friends get carted away, he locks eyes with Chief Wayne Unser, who he knows is a SAMCRO ally.
"Hell Followed"[]
Deputy Chief David Hale is taking Darby's statement about the previous night. Darby tells Hale he knows it was the Mayans that tried to kill him, not SAMCRO. Hale's general disinterest in Darby's predicament earns him a slug in the face, causing other officers to rush in and restrain him. Hale sneers that Darby caught him off guard before stepping out of the room.
Unser orders that Darby be put in holding, this causes a racist tirade from Darby saying that he is locked up whilst the blacks and Mexican will be killng in Charming. Unser reminds Darby that he is married to a black woman before punching him in the gut.
Season 2[]
"Albification"[]
AJ Weston, a member of the League of American Nationalists, a white supremacist organisation disguised as a business enterprise visits Darby, Weston wants to pair up with Darby and get him to join the League. Darby isn't too sure and receives a stern talking to by Weston for hiring Mexicans for his woodworking business. Weston says that money should never come before race, he gives Weston $5k to get him operational inside of Charming again. Darby is understandably concerned what happens if Clay finds out he is dealing drugs and prostitues inside of Charming again. Weston tells him to call the League any time and they will back him up.
"Fix"[]
Darby exits his cookhouse in Charming and finds Hale outside, it is clear that the house is indeed being used to cook crank. Darby presents Hale with a gift from Zobelle, a coupon for his cigar shop, essentially proving to Hale that Zobelle is working with the Nords.
"Falx Cerebri"[]
Following an explosion at the SAMCRO garage, Darby tries to skip town, having heard warning something might be going down. He is pulled over on his way out by Hale and is surprised to see Jax has accompanied him. They ask him where Zobelle is but Darby insists he doesn't know, Hale queries why he is running out of town and Darby admits he got a heads up that something might be happening in town, but that is all he knows. Hale provides a description of a woman and Darby says it sounds like Polly Zobelle, Zobelle's daughter.
"Fa Guan"[]
Darby is cooking up in a trailer when the Sons arrive, they torch his trailer and assault his guys. Clay tells Darby that his days of cooking crank in Charming are over, Zobelle sold him out. An enraged Darby heads to Zobelle and Weston to confront them about SAMCRO hitting his businesses. Zobelle offers him a chance of payback. Darby, Weston and some other Aryans head to Cara Cara, SAMCRO's porn studio, they set the place on fire before Darby is knocked out by Weston, leaving him to die in the fire.
Season 3[]
Darby is shown to be alive and recovering in the episode "The Push." He observes Jax and Tara dealing black market pharmaceutical meds with a local clinic. He takes this information to Jacob Hale Jr., who is apprehensive and believes Darby is just trying to crush the competition from SAMCRO. Darby claims that the Nords have fallen apart and that his near-death experience made him decide to lead a normal life and that now he is only looking for revenge. Hale ultimately uses the tip and has the Sheriffs raid SAMCRO's clubhouse. In a later episode, Hale attempts to bribe Darby into helping him run a stubborn gym owner out of a neighborhood he is looking to redevelop. Darby initially accepts the bribe, but he is not able to convince the gym owner to vacate the property. Darby, disgusted with himself at becoming Hale's errand boy, angrily returns the bribe money to Hale and then leaves.
Season 6[]
Darby, having retired from his criminal life, had left the Neo-Nazi scene and married one of his immigrant workers, a Hispanic woman. After Clay had killed an Aryan brotherhood member in prison, the blowback of Aryan retaliation hit SAMCRO hard so they went to Darby for information. While Darby claimed that wasn't his life anymore, Jax knew that he has lived against the Aryans' ways and so Darby would know about Neo-Nazi activity in the area. Darby told them of a man named Eddie Gerber who was trying to start up a new crew of white supremacists since the Nords had disbanded. Darby went with them to Gerber's and when things went south, escaped with them. When the Sons offered protection since the Aryans knew Darby was involved, he said he could take care of himself.
