Appearance and Style[]

Chibs is 45 years of age when we first meet him, he is of average build and height. Chibs has messy unkempt brown hair throughout the late 2000's and a scruffy grey and brown circle beard that varies in length. As Chibs ages his hair also grows and gets progressively greyer. By his 50's, Chibs' hair is quite long and he often has it either slicked straight back or strands of his fringe hanging loosely on either sides of his head. By 2019, Chibs is in his mid 50's and has now gone completely grey. His hair is seen to be much shorter and slicked back, he still has the same circle beard. Chibs also has a "Glasgow smile", two scars on either side of his mouth caused by a knife, this is a real injury that Flanagan sustained when he was a young man and was attacked. Chibs has multiple tattoos on his upper body, he has a large dollar bill in the middle of his chest, Flanagan chose this tattoo himself and claims it means, "Fuck you, pay me"; on top of his heart he also has the name "Kerrianne", his estranged daughter. On his left shoulder he has a large grim reaper, although it isn't a club reaper. On his right shoulder he has a large rosary cross and a motorcycle underneath, the latter he got some time around season five. Chibs also has an anarchy symbol just below these. On his right wrist Chibs has an X symbol with the words "RIP Ray-Ray" around it, this was first seen in season two. Ray-Ray was affiliated with the show and was most likely a stunt rider or an adviser.

Chibs frequently wears button-up shirts of darker colours and also a black or brown leather jacket. His trousers usually consist of dark coloured jeans and brown or black boots. Chibs also often wears dark sunglasses, he is seen in later seasons wearing sunglasses with purple lenses. Chibs sometimes also has a silver "SAMCRO" buckle on his black leather belt. Chibs wears multiple rings. In earlier seasons, Chibs wears a golden bracelet and a silver crucifix necklace; in later seasons, he wears wooden beaded necklaces and bracelets.

Chibs' kutte also has a generous amount of customisability displayed. After the death of his friend and fellow Son, Opie, in 2012, Chibs has a memorial patch dedicated to him on the bottom of his kutte. Above his "Redwood Original" flash, Chibs wears a golden pin depicting a Sons reaper brandishing a scythe, Clay also wears this pin. Chibs also wears a golden ball peen hammer pin, this pin is associated with the real life motorcycle club, the Hells Angels and is worn by members who have committed violence on behalf of the club.

Biography[]

CHIB'S SIDEARM

Chib's Gun

Telford was born in 1963 and is originally from Glasgow, Scotland, but grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland and served as a medic with the British Army; his military service, however, lasted only five months, ending in a court martial. His army experience has led to him becoming the club's medic for backdoor emergency surgery. He was married to Fiona Larkin and has a daughter named Kerrianne. However, when he was thrown out of the True IRA, the group's leader, Jimmy O'Phelan, took his family from him. O'Phelan also scarred his face and told him never to return to Ireland, leaving Chibs with a scarred face and a lifelong nickname. He became SAMBEL’s first prospect, who eventually patched over from SAMBEL to SAMCRO becoming the liaison between the two charters. Chibs was an outlier in the club, being Scottish whilst the rest of the club were American. He is also SAMCRO's connection with the True IRA, who sell guns to gangs in the United States. He has been heard speaking Scottish Gaelic. His first kill was for the True IRA killing a police constable in Omagh, Northern Ireland at a very young age. He quotes 'we could have been in the same school together'.

Due to his age and life experience, Chibs is calmer and more level-headed than most other Sons, preferring to use less bloody methods in his approach, though he has no problem using violence when it is needed. He had a good relationship with Jax, calling him "Jackie" or "Jackie Boy" and backing every decision Jax made after he became President. His unshakable loyalty towards Jax is repaid by the young man with the Vice President patch. Chibs is also more tolerant than the other members; accepting Juice and being willing to give him another chance in the club.

Season 1[]

"Pilot"[]

Filip "Chibs" Telford is at the Teller-Morrow garage and clubhouse, Jackson "Jax" Teller, Vice President of SAMCRO speaks to Chibs and Kip "Half-Sack" Epps, the club prospect. The pair are trying to remove a deer from a windshield. Jax instructs Half-Sack to use a chainsaw to get the deer out. Chibs pulls Jax aside to ask about the warehouse explosion that happened last night and he explains that it was the Mayans Motorcycle Club and they stole the One-Niners shipment of guns. Jax says that Clarence "Clay" Morrow, club President and his stepfather, is going to meet with Laroy Wayne, the leader of the Niners.

Back at the clubhouse, Half-Sack shows the club his ballbag, which contains only one ball, as the other was blown off by a landmine in Iraq. Clay tells Chibs to find Jax and inform him they are sitting at the table.

At the table, Clay lays out the situation, the club have one more day before Laroy brings his men to Charming. The Niners have a heroin shipment coming in and they need the guns for protection. Jax is adamant that a big problem is going to occur if the Mayans attempt to steal the Niners heroin with their own guns but an angry Clay shuts down the idea, saying it isn't going to happen. The club decide they are going to track down where the guns are and retrieve them, destroying the Mayans warehouse in the process. Robert "Bobby Elvis" Munson is going to be absent as he needs to go to Tahoe to deal with his ex-wives, he is the club's usual explosive expert. Clay suggests they bring in Harry "Opie" Winston, an on and off member of the club who has recently gotten out of prison after serving 9 years for. Jax insists that Opie is "leaning straight" but Clay tells him he doesn't care, Opie will have to help them.

The club exit Church and Gemma Teller-Morrow, Clay's wife and Jax's mother furiously drives in to the parking lot. She tells them that Wendy Case, Jax's pregnant ex-wife has overdosed and is in hospital. Clay, Jax, Gemma, Bobby and Chibs head to Saint Thomas Hospital. Gemma explains that the heroin Wendy OD'd on had marking on the packaging, the club realise it is the work of the Nordics, a white supremacist gang in Charming who frequently peddle drugs.

They find Wendy and they quickly realise that her baby bump has gone. Dr. Tara Knowles exits the room and speaks to them. She explains that an emergency C-section had to be performed and that the baby is 10 weeks premature. He is also very unwell due to being born with the Teller heart defect and all the drugs Wendy was shooting up. He is given a 20% survival chance.

Jax leaves the hospital as Clay orders Chibs and Bobby to stay with him. The trio head to the Hairy Dog, a Nords bar. Inside Jax assaults a member, Izzy, impaling him with a pool cue and is eventually dragged away by Chibs as Bobby holds the other Nords at gunpoint. Jax leaves the other two, saying he is going to find Opie.

At the table, the club go over the situation with the Nordics and their plan to retrieve their guns. They are joined at the table by Opie, and Happy Lowman, a member of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Tacoma charter. Piermont "Piney" Winston, Opie's father and co-founder of the club speaks up and congratulates Jax on the birth of his son, and they are all here for him if they need him.

Later that day, the club put the finishing touches to their plan to raid the Mayan warehouse and retrieve their guns. Clay is impressed with the club's work.

The club hit the Mayan warehouse and are able to locate their guns, they work on wiring the place up with explosives when Mayans arrive. They stay quiet as Jax and Clay head out to deal with the problem. They argue about what should be done as Clay insists on blowing the warehouse up but Jax isn't so sure, not wanting to start a war with the Mayans. Clay says that they would be long gone if it wasn't for the delay with the explosives which is ultimately Jax's fault, not believing his story about Opie having to take his daughter to the hospital. They are able to outmanoeuvre the Mayans which ends with Clay and Tig both killing one and Jax being left to execute the last one. Suddenly, he is shot in the back but is able to return fire and hit his attacker, the last remaining Mayan attempts to draw a knife from his belt and finish off Jax, but he is gunned down by Clay. SAMCRO check the bodies of the deceased, realising one if a Nordic, meaning the Mayans and the Nords have a new partnership. The club put the finishing touches to their explosive work and detonate the Mayans warehouse.

"Seeds"[]

Clay announces that the gun deal with the Niners has finally gone through, giving the club a decent chunk of change. Juice soon arrives and says that Deputy Chief David Hale has a warrant to search one of the Sons' warehouses where they store guns.

Inside Church, the club are planning what to do after Clay and Tig admitted that Clay had been having sex with the two dead Mexicans at the warehouse. Juice and Jax theorise that Hale is going to borrow a forensic team for the Lodi PD. Otto "Big Otto" Delaney, an imprisoned member of SAMCRO's sister works for the Lodi PD and perhaps she can let SAMCRO know if a forensic team is coming their way. Clay says that he is going to speak to Chief Wayne Unser, the corrupt Chief of Charming PD who the club have a long history with and see if he can get Hale to back down.

Back in Church, Juice explains that the forensic team will be in Charming tomorrow. Clay says the only way to stop them is to divert their attention with another murder. Jax is unsure, saying that Hale is already on high alert and it could bring more trouble with the Nords and the Mayans. Clay insists they need to do it to protect Tig and Jax eventually relents. Tig says they should kill some Nords and Clay agrees. Tig leaves to go and set things up but Jax stops him. He says he has a plan to fix their issue without killing anyone. He says they should call in a favour with Skeeter, an undertaker who can easily be bought out; Jax states that all they need is a body and a crime scene for a murder, of which they can fabricate. Clay agrees, telling Jax to not make him regret going with his plan.

Jax, Chibs, Juice and Half-Sack head to Skeeter's crematorium. The club explain that they need two bodies from Skeeter but he tells them he isn't interested in a deal right now. He says he has quit gambling and doesn't want SAMCRO's money. He admits that there is something they can do for him, however. He wants them to set him up with Emily Duncan, a crow eater and Jax says to consider it done.

Jax, Chibs and Juice head back to the cemetery, they find that Half-Sack has finished digging up the dead body, unfortunately, he's quite a big guy. Nevertheless they load the bodies in to two cars and head to Lodi.

Things turn sour when Jax and Chibs are pulled over after a cop notices some damage to their car. Juice and Half-Sack are behind and Juice thinks quickly and rear ends the cop car, the two then bailing and running from the two cops as they give chase. This gives Jax and Chibs ample time to burst the tyres on the cop car and steal their radio. They then head back to their car and pull a quick u-turn, driving back down the highway and picking up Juice and Half-Sack as they leave the cops in the dust.

The four then finish setting their murder scene, with Jax adding some finishing touches, making it look like a Nord and a Mayan murder.

As they had back to Charming, they spot a hot rod at a gas station, Jax recognises it as the same guy who cut them off earlier, subsequently damaging their vehicle and getting them pulled over by the cops. They head inside the gas station and Jax beats the guy down, who then pulls a gun and starts firing. Jax wrestles with the driver before the gas station employee steps in, killing the driver with an axe.

"Fun Town"[]

The club regroup that evening to meet the True IRA for a gun deal, whilst they wait, Clay asks everyone's opinion on Half-Sack's prospect period. Everyone is in agreement that Half-Sack is doing an amazing job and is an asset to the club. Clay calls him over as their shipment arrives. Disassembled guns inside of oil barrels. Michael McKeavey, the driver of the truck and IRA member is frustrated to hear that the Sons won't be placing another order with the IRA for a few months whilst they recover from the warehouse fire. McKeavey says they have no choice but to look for another buyer.

The club agree to front McKeavey his money to keep their business arrangements, Chibs is ordered by Clay to go with McKeavey whilst he makes a trip up north, Clay wants to know who he is meeting.

Elliott Oswald, a local businessman drives in to the lot, demanding to speak with Clay.

Later in Church, the rest of the club learn about Oswald's situation. His 13 year old daughter was raped and beaten the previous night, and he wants SAMCRO to find the perpetrator. Some members of the club are unsure about assisting Oswald as he has no real affiliation to SAMCRO and it isn't their business. Clay is able to rally the troops however, and everyone is in agreement they will assist Oswald. The club believe that the Nords are a good place to start to try and find the rapist.

Jax and Chibs meet with Half-Sack who has been tailing Hale's leads. They end up back at the carnival to speak to some workers but aren't able to get much information out of them.

The club briefly return to the clubhouse to pick up some of the AK's Juice was handling, unable to find him, they leave without him to confront Johnny Yates, a man they suspect could be the rapist after getting some intel from Darby. They find where Yates is supposed to be, a large house out in the woods with armed guards outside. They attempt to arm up, but find the AK's have no magazines inside of them.

The club subdue the guards and breach the house, where they stumble upon a church group. After speaking to Yates, they realise that he is a changed man and is not the rapist. The club extend their apologies and quickly leave.

Jax returns to the clubhouse with the identity of the rapist, the club return to the carnival and beat up the carnival workers, finally finding the rapist. They escort him to the woods and hold him until Oswald arrives. Oswald arrives with a blade and demands they remove the rapist's trousers. As Clay oversees, he reminds Oswald they had a deal, he must deliver the justice himself. Oswald drops the blade, unable to do it, he quickly flees the scene.

Clay gloves up and does the job himself, castrating the rapist. He passes Jax the blade as they realise it was all about blackmail, they have Oswald's prints on a murder weapon and now they can use it as leverage when they want to do business with him in the future.

"AK-51"[]

At the table, with the club whole again. Juice has returned from Nevada and Chibs has returned from up North. Chibs brings news about their Irish contacts and explains they need to pay them on time or they will buy from the Russians instead. The Sons will also continue to sell guns to the Niners at a discounted price. Jax and Piney also made a sale of some weapons to a local militia earlier in the day.

Half-Sack suddenly bursts in to Church and tells Clay he is needed outside. The club head outside and find Agent June Stahl of the ATF and Hale. Stahl asks who the owner of the garage is and Clay admits it is him, he is immediately arrested. Clay asks what the charge is and Stahl says he isn't being charged yet, she is just looking for some information about Nate Meineke. Clay states he doesn't know who that is and Stahl informs him that he is responsible for holding up a prison transport and killing three people. The last call on his phone is from TM.

The club scramble to keep things in check. Piney tells them that Nate has reached out and told Piney his location. Jax tells Piney that he has to setup a meet so that they can take care of the militants, they lead the feds right to the Son's front door. Bobby also announces that the feds have a warrant to search the clubhouse. Piney is sent back to the cabin with Opie whilst Jax attempts to handle the situation.

Jax tells Bobby to meet with Laroy and collect the money for the guns, they will have them by the end of the day. Chibs questions how Jax is going to get the guns out of the clubhouse with the pending search warrant.

Jax strikes gold with a genius idea to use a septic tank to get the guns out of the clubhouse. A company is at the clubhouse clearing out the drains. Not all is well however, as Bobby returns with news that Laroy is refusing to buy the guns due to the heat associated with them.

The warrant finally comes through, hordes of armed ATF agents storm the clubhouse and quickly detain all the Sons. The Sons laugh to themselves as they know the feds won't find anything they can be charged with.

The feds leave empty handed and Chibs, Juice and Half-Sack head out to retrieve the guns from the septic tank.

Clay heads up to the cabin with the rest of the club, he is happy to hear that Jax managed to get the guns out of the warehouse and the ATF have uncovered nothing in their search except for the Irish oil barrels which the club receive their guns in, which the club believe could pose a threat if the ATF investigate hard enough. Clay says it won't be a problem once the gun warehouse is rebuilt and they don't need to store anything in the clubhouse anymore. Jax attempts to tell Clay that they are handling the militia but Clay insists Jax will handle it find and heads to bed.

"Old Bones"[]

At the clubhouse. Half-Sack is boxing with Lowell Harland Jr. a mechanic at TM and a recovering drug addict. The club scheme on entering Half-Sack in a bare knuckle boxing circuit to win some big money for the club to help pay the Irish. Jax tells Bobby and Chibs to train Half-Sack, take $50k and triple it. Half-Sack is now on a strict diet of no weed, booze, or pussy. Clay also tells Bobby to try it on with Cherry, Half-Sack's girlfriend, get Half-Sack real angry for his fights.

At the table, the club discuss the bodies that were found, to the newer members of the club. Clay explains they are Mayan bodies, if they get ID'd it could bring heat back to the club. They need to stop the bodies getting ID'd or trouble could be brewing.

Half-Sack is informed that he will be boxing for $15k for the Sons. Clay has put him on a diet of no drink, drugs or Cherry, much to Half-Sack's dismay. Cherry will also be staying with Bobby until the fight is over, an agreement neither Half-Sack or Cherry are happy about.

Half-Sack performs in his first fight, he is able to win the fight with ease and nets the Sons a nice payday.

Clay arrives at Half-Sack's boxing match. Clay then sits with Cherry, she tells him she isn't interested in Bobby, only in Half-Sack. Clay tells Cherry that she is more than welcome to stick around if Half-Sack patches in. This earns him a kiss on the cheek from Cherry, who is grateful for his kindness. Half-Sack sees this and quickly becomes enraged. Clay stands and yells out for Half-Sack to drop but he pummels his opponent knocking him out. Clay rushes up and apologises to Bobby, Chibs and Tig, admitting it is his fault Half-Sack acted out. The club bail before things get out of hand.

Half-Sack apologises to Clay, Clay sarcastically remarks that at least he got the girl. He does however owe the club $35k according to Chibs.

"The Pull"[]

At the table, the club have almost pulled together enough money for the IRA guns, they are very close to the $200k they need. The club briefly discuss the various ways they have pooled together the money before Clay announces they can get the remaining money from Luann, if Gemma talks to her first. She is making a lot of money from the porn industry. Jax also announces that his son is getting out of the hospital today, the club are excited and pleased for Jax.

Jax returns to the clubhouse and informs the club of his crank discovery, he assisted at a roadside accident and discovered the drugs on the driver, he suspects it is the Nords. Juice confirms if it definitely Nord product and Tig says they should teach Darby a lesson. Jax says that he and Opie will go and speak to the driver of the truck and see what he has to say about the meth. Clay says that Luann is also fronting the club $55k, meaning they only need $15k more by the end of the day. Chibs tells Half-Sack that if he ever wants to get patched in, he needs to find them the remaining money.

At the clubhouse, the club mock Half-Sack for stealing an ambulance, claming they can easily sell it for $100k. When asked where he can sell it to, he isn't able to answer, realising the many flaws in his plan. The club laugh at Half-Sack's expense and Clay tells Chibs to get rid of the ambulance after dark. Jax soon arrives, he briefly wonders why there is an ambulance in the garage but upon learning Half-Sack is responsible, he asks no further questions. Clay asks if Jax was able to learn anything from the truck driver, to which he quickly tells them about how he learned the Nords are dealing crank in Pope, where the driver fills up his tanker with diesel, Opie and Jax stole the tanker, and Jax flipped it to Unser at a cheap price. Meaning they now have enough money for the IRA.

Chibs, Juice, Jax, Opie and Half-Sack soon arrive at the bar where Clay and Tig were meeting the IRA. They learn that a shooting went down and Cameron Hayes, the Sons' new contact after McKeavey was killed by port commissioner Brenan Hefner for not wanting to pay more tax has also just been shot by Mayans who attacked the bar. The barman says he will take care of the Mayan body whilst the rest of the club get Cameron back to the clubhouse, in Half-Sack's very convenient ambulance.

Back at the clubhouse, Chibs says that they need real medical tools or Cameron will die, the bullet hit an artery and it being lodged inside of him is the only thing stopping him from bleeding out. Gemma soon arrives and is relieved to see everyone in one piece; Clay informs her that other charters are coming down and the clubhouse needs to be stocked. Jax says that he will speak to Tara and see what medical equipment she can assist them in getting.

Later that night, Chibs and Juice try their best to patch up Cameron.

"Hell Followed"[]

At the clubhouse, Gemma is concerned as they haven't been able to locate Jax last night and today, Gemma wants to try and find him but Clay tells her to stay put. Piney and Opie agree to ride to St. Thomas to see if he may be there. Chibs then enters to inform Clay that he and Juice are still patching up Cameron, but Chibs is concerned he may have sepsis.

Chibs and Juice continue to work on Cameron, eventually being able to pull one of the slugs from him causing a fountain of blood to spray out of the wound. Tig and Gemma rush in before the pair swiftly leave the clubhouse.

Cameron eventually comes to and is horrified to see that Juice has his finger buried in his ass cheek, essentially keeping him alive. Chibs soon returns and Cameron tells Chibs that Hefner must be dealt with and dealt with swiftly. On Monday he is going to set dogs loose on cargo and the IRA shipment will be discovered. Chibs assures him that the club will deal with it.

At the table, Clay addresses SAMCRO and the other charters who have come down. He states that what happened the previous night can never happen again, no more bodies can drop in Charming. Tig speaks up and says that SAMCRO did not attempt to kill the Nords, it was Alvarez who tried to kill Clay and Darby. However, if they retaliate, war is certain. Clay admits that he sat down with Alvarez, causing shock to ripple across the table. Clay says that he made a deal with Alvarez, the Sons will sell guns to the Mayans and all beefs will be ended, in Charming and out of state, no Sons will have issues with Mayans anymore. Juice enquires about the Sons deal with the Niners and selling guns to them, but Jax insists they have no real loyalty to the Niners and they also buy guns from other sources. Bobby admits he has concern that a deal with the Mayans could trigger something else with the Niners. Tig says that the Mayans still tried to kill him but Clay says that debt will be settled too, by another charter, he asks if Happy will do the deed and he of course agrees. The club vote on the deal and the majority are on board.

"Better Half"[]

At the table, the club, joined by Unser who has been kicked out of his office to make way for the ATF discuss the recent return of Stahl. So far she has had Luann arrested on drug charges and Cherry on theft and arson. Unser says that Stahl is trying to use the RICO act to bring down the club, which will affect all of them, hence why he is sitting at the table. Jax says that Tara will never turn on the club and they have nothing to worry about regarding her. Bobby says that they can't get through to Otto, they have him on federal watch and he isn't allowed any phone calls. Jax theorises that Stahl is pressing Otto for history and using Luann as leverage. The club begin to grow concerned, knowing that Otto would do anything for Luann and Cherry also knows a lot of information about Indian Hills. The club devise a plan to use Unser and get Jax and Opie in to the police station to pass a message to Luann to warn Otto about Stahl using the RICO act, as the pair will most likely be allowed to see each other as some sort of leverage deal. They will also work on finding out where Cherry is. Clay, running out of ideas quickly agrees to Jax's plan, as does everyone else.

"Capybara"[]

Clay receives a call from the SAMCRO lawyer, he announces that Luann is clear of any charges, but Otto isn't. In a final meeting with Stahl, he attacked her, smashing her face in to a table and breaking her nose, proving he is loyal to the club. The celebration is very short lived as suddenly Juice sees an army of armed police at the front door of the clubhouse, within seconds Stahl has strutted in as the club are forced to the floor. Bobby is grabbed and told he is under arrest for the murder of Hefner.

At the table, the club is very concerned about Bobby being arrested, Jax insists he is sure there was no witness and nobody could've seen them carrying out the murder. The club notice the mysterious absence of Opie and minds begin to race as Tig states that only two other people saw the murder, one is in jail and the other is in the wind. This causes Jax to jump to his feet as he and Tig almost begin to fight at Tig's accusation. Piney also steps up, saying Opie isn't here is because he doesn't know what is going on. Jax heads out to find him.

Jax meets up with Opie as the pair are going to travel to the clubhouse to clear Opie's name. They arrive at the clubhouse and everyone is happy to see Opie, they head in to Church. Opie speaks, telling the table that Stahl tried to set him up as a rat, he doesn't know who the witness is but it isn't him. Donna Winston was also targeted but she turned down Stahl's deal, wanting to stay loyal to Opie. Tig then enters as Opie finishes his piece, he asks if he is good with the club and Clay confirms he is, banging the gavel as everyone stands to leave except for Tig and Clay.

"The Sleep of Babies"[]

At the table, Clay expresses concern about the club's current lack of cash. If they need to fund Bobby's legal defense, they are in trouble. He suggests selling the club's personal gun surplus to the Mayans and there is a level of disagreement. Clay says that if they sell the Mayans the guns, it will appear as a goodwill gesture and they will get a good payout. Jax protests but Clay admits he is out of ideas. They formulate a plan and will do the deal in two separate locations, Tig and Opie drop off the guns in one location and Jax and Clay pick up the cash in another. Piney wants in also but Clay refuses, causing Piney to angrily storm out of Church.

With news of a shooting, SAMCRO race downtown, they find Donna dead. Opie arrives at the traffic lights where he sees the bloodied corpse of Donna, he drops to his knees and sobs as he holds her. Chibs and Jax drag him away.

Chibs and Juice later drink silently at the clubhouse.

"The Revelator"[]

At the table tensions run high for obvious reasons. Clay tells the table that he is responsible, organising the deal with the Mayans that led to Donna's demise, others speak up and say they all agreed on the deal. Piney says they track down Laroy and kill him and becomes enraged at Clay, saying if it happened to him there would be instant retaliation, Piney leaves and Jax goes after him.

Rosen drops by to speak to SAMCRO, he says the name of the witness is being released and the ATF is presenting evidence agaisnt Opie for his part in the murder of Hefner, he expects it to be a resident or neighbor that saw the hit and if Opie comes in, he probably won't be leaving again. Clay reminds Rosen that Donna'a funeral is tomorrow and Rosen says he will do what he can to delay and reminds Clay that his payment is due soon. The club decide they need to deal with the witness before they can testify against Opie or Bobby. They realise the witness is under watch 24/7 and it will not be easy getting to them. The club agree they will contact Trammel to try and get information about safehouses in San Joaqiun. Jax receives a call from a frantic Half-Sack who has been tailing Piney, he tells Jax that Piney is heading in to a Niners bar, probably looking for Laroy, another issue for SAMCRO's ever growing list of problems. Jax and Chibs head out to retrieve him whilst Tig and Clay go and speak to Trammel.

Jax and Chibs race to the Niner bar and finds Laroy outside, they head inside and find Piney with a gun to the head of one of Laroy's men. Piney tells Jax to go, telling him that it doesn't involve him, one of them killed Donna and he is going to make it right. Laroy chimes in, asking what Piney is talking about. Jax pleads with Laroy, asking him that if Piney puts the gun down do they all walk out of the bar alive, Laroy agrees and Jax approaches Piney, signalling to Half-Sack to assist, Half-Sack elbows Piney, causing him to drop the gun and Jax to snatch it away. Jax, Piney and Laroy sit down and talk. Jax explains to Laroy what happened to Donna but Laroy tells them it was nothing to do with the Niners. Yes, the Niners and SAMCRO need to work out their issues but if their beef took him to the streets of Charming to start killing women, would they all really still be alive? Laroy suggests they be on their way quickly.

Tig, Chibs and Happy head to the safehouse, they have got the location of the witness, they immobilise the cops outside and break in, the trio are shocked to find a young girl inside, she is the witness. Happy says that he will kill the girl but Tig steps up, saying he must do it, he escorts the terrified girl when suddenly Jax arrives and tells Tig to put the gun down. Tig refuses, raising his gun to the girl's head and Jax counters by doing the same to Tig, saying he will kill him. Jax tells Happy and Chibs to get out, angering the pair, saying this wasn't part of the plan. They leave.

The following day, the club ride with Donna's funeral procession to the graveyard. Many associates, friends and family are also present. Jax arrives late, looking worse for wear, Tara stands and places his kutte on him, before kissing him passionately. Jax briefly pays his respects to Donna before taking off.

Season 2[]

Early in Season Two, Chibs narrowly escapes an explosion set up to end the life of a member of SAMCRO. Tara told Jax that he was in stable condition. It was revealed in the Season 2 episode "Potlatch" that his wife's name is Fiona and she has come back to Charming to take care of Chibs. She gives him a kiss on the cheek and says the kiss is from someone named Kerrianne. Gemma mentions that she is one of the only three women who scares her. Gemma informs Tara that they have been separated a long time and just never got a divorce, she also tells Tara that they need to keep Chibs in this hospital and how Fiona can never be alone with him. In Season 2, episode "Fa Guan," Jax visits Chibs and updates him on what's going on. Chibs mentions a man named Jimmy O (Edmond Hayes mentions him in an earlier episode) and how he would never let Fiona travel alone, so Jimmy O has to be here as well. Tara informs Chibs that they have to move him to a different hospital. When he hears this news, he gets scared and says he needs to be in a place where there is protection. Later on, Chibs pretends to have a headache and claims that he cannot see through his right eye in order to stay in intensive care. In episode "Balm," Chibs is released from the hospital and on the way to the clubhouse, he tells Half-Sack that they should stop by Cara Cara. Half-Sack informs Chibs that Cara Cara burned down and how Jax is going Nomad. In the same episode, it is also revealed that Jimmy O kicked Chibs out of Ireland and the IRA, took Chibs' wife for himself and raised Chibs' daughter, and is responsible for the scars that are on his face. Agent June Stahl attempts to use this history to get Chibs to inform on the IRA. Chibs initially refuses this offer, but after Jimmy O insinuates that he will take up a sexual relationship with Chibs' daughter if Chibs does not cooperate with his attempts to repair the IRA's relationship with SAMCRO (Jimmy O wants a meeting with Clay), Chibs turns to Stahl and offers information in exchange for his wife and daughter's safety (Stahl says she'll put them in witness protection) and the ATF's promise to keep SAMCRO out of their investigation into the Irish.

In the episode "Service", Chibs meets with Stahl to sign the deal he proposed. When he realized that Stahl altered their agreement, he refused to sign any documents. Stahl threatened to reveal Chibs' betrayal to the True IRA, which would mean certain death for his wife and abducted daughter. Opie accidentally sees Chibs and Stahl leaving from the same building. Feeling helpless and ashamed for both dealing behind SAMCRO's back and for his plan backfiring, Chibs sits alone in the auto shop where Gemma sees him. Gemma gives Chibs advice and encourages him to tell the truth to Clay and the others, which he does. Clay tells him that he didn't sign anything, so he isn't a rat.

Season 3[]

Chibs actively joins the search for Abel along with the rest of SAMCRO. His history with Jimmy O causes him to lack trust in Jimmy's information about Abel's location. When SAMCRO goes to Belfast, Chibs is reunited with his estranged wife and his daughter. He is seemingly glad to see many of his former SAMBEL club mates. Sadly, Chibs suffers the loss of his nephew Padraic Telford, who is killed in an explosion set up by Liam O'Neill on Jimmy O's orders. The explosion also kills several other members of SAMBEL. Chibs and SAMCRO later get revenge by killing O'Neill, while also discovering Keith McGee's betrayal. Back in Charming, Chibs finally gets his revenge on Jimmy by giving him the same Glasgow Smile that Jimmy gave him and subsequently stabbing him to death. He then uses Jimmy's own blood to paint a True IRA symbol on the rear windshield of Stahl's cruiser to make it look like the True IRA committed the hit.

Season 4[]

Along with Opie, Piney and Kozik, Chibs coordinated the day-to-day operations of the club while the others were in prison and organized the setup of increased IRA hardware traffic. Chibs was at Stockton State Prison‏‎ welcoming Clay, Jax, Bobby, Juice, Happy, and Tig after they were released from prison and later attended Opie's wedding. Chibs, Bobby, Happy, and Juice snuck away from the meeting to the Russian hardware, eventually double-crossing and murdering the Russians, as well as an undercover FBI agent. Along with the rest of the club, Chibs is reluctant to enter into a deal with the drug cartel, but points out that the high volume of guns being moved will keep the IRA happy. However, he votes against the deal when it comes to a final decision, stating he doesn't trust the cartel.

Chibs, along with Juice and Happy, takes part in the interrogation of Filthy Phil and Ratboy after a kilo of cocaine is stolen from the stash that was muled up from Tucson for the Mayans. Chibs and Happy are adamant that one of the two prospects is responsible and has to be punished, while Juice tries to be merciful, since he is the one who actually took it. Juice is blackmailed by Sheriff Roosevelt and Assistant U.S. District Attorney, Lincoln Potter. Roosevelt told Juice to get him a sample of the cocaine. Juice did so to save the club finding out about his father. During all this, Juice was doubtful about his future in the club because of Roosevelt and Potter. This led Juice to attempt to end his own life. Later on in the same episode, Chibs found out and became a very strong 'father' figure towards Juice. Worrying about his situation and his status with the club if they ever found out his father was black, he asks Chibs for his views on the rule forbidding African Americans from being part of SAMCRO, since Chibs's wife and daughter are both black. Chibs remarks that the rules have been there since day one of SAMCRO, and while he doesn't necessarily agree with all of them, picking and choosing which rules to follow and which to not will cause the entire organization to fall apart.

Season 5[]

Chibs is shown to sticking closer to Jax than ever in his new position as Sergeant-at-Arms. When the Sons are attacked by Niners during a muling run, who are scorned by Tig trying to kill Laroy Wayne and accidentally killing his girlfriend Veronica Pope, he attends a meeting between the Sons, the Niners, and powerful gangster Damon Pope (Veronica's father) to cease hostilities. He along with Jax is charged with the highway shooting of one of the Niners and Tig with running down Veronica, when they are identified by witnesses bought by Pope, who wants them inside so they can be killed by black prison gangs he controls. The three are arrested, along with Opie (who assaults Roosevelt) and sent to Stockton. They are initially protected by Mexicans thanks to the Cartel, but Pope demands a dead Son for the Niner and cop killed by them as well as Tig to stay inside forever. Opie takes the fall and Chibs screams in horror as he watches Opie beaten to death. When they get out, Jax makes a new deal with Pope to cut his gang in on the muling business for a bigger payment. He also gives them the identity of address of the prison sergeant who had Opie killed. They track him down and Jax beats him to death with a snow globe, until Chibs pulls him off. When it's revealed the three Nomads Gogo, Greg, and Frankie are behind the break-ins they try and track them down. GoGo and Greg are killed when they try to kill Unser. They later find Frankie who robs Nero of $150,000 of cash and watches and kidnaps and injures Chibs. He is later told by Jax and Bobby of the RICO case facing SOA and the rat who helped the Feds set it up: Juice. He is enraged at the betrayal and embarrassed at the leverage; Juice's dad is black. When they find the man who beat Opie to death, he is revealed to be Grim Bastard President T.O.'s cousin. Jax promises not to kill him, but after questioning him on the others, Chibs shoots him in the head with a silenced pistol. He states they did what they had to do. Since Bobby disagrees and it could come to a head, Jax asks Chibs if he is in his corner, to which he states "I've always been there and I always will. I love you kid. You understand that?" and then goes to clean up from the shooting.

Chibs confronts Jax

After Bobby resigned as Vice President, Chibs was promoted by Jax to the position, his former rank of Sergeant-at-Arms going to Happy. Chibs advised Jax on all of his affairs, initially being less vocally opposed than Bobby had been as VP. Later, after a school shooting that was performed using one of the guns the Sons sold, Jax decided to tell the Irish that he was wanting to get SAMCRO out of guns, telling them they'd no longer be delivering their weapons. Chibs grew frustrated with Jax, warning him that they had weapons that needed to be delivered. Things grew worse when Galen and the Irish told Jax that he wasn't getting out guns, leading to a physical altercation between Galen and Jax. Jax told him that they were done being the Irish's delivery men and as vengeance for what he saw as betrayal, Galen killed Filthy Phil and V-Lin and mutilated their bodies. The Sons then focused on getting into contact with the Irish Kings, leaders of the IRA, to tell them what had happened between the Sons and Galen. When Chibs learned that Jax offered to hand over the distribution of the Irish weapons to August Marks, a black gangster and the crime kingpin in Oakland, he was furious with Jax for making that decision behind the Sons' backs and for his foolishness in thinking the Irish would agree where instead it just insulted him. He continually told Jax that he had to bring big decisions to the table and had no right to make them on his own. Jax's decision to pull out of the guns convinced Galen and the Irish Kings that they should sever their ties with SAMCRO. When they planted explosives in the clubhouse, they planned on killing every member of SAMCRO along with their families who were there under lockdown. Jax discovered a pen belonging to the Irish though and discovered the plot only mere minutes before the bombs were set to go off. Jax rushed to get Abel out of the bedroom and Chibs waited loyally to make sure his president was out before being the last to flee the clubhouse as it exploded behind them.

Season 7[]

In season 7, Chibs has a brief romantic relationship with Eli Roosevelt's replacement, Lt. Althea Jarry. With Chibs and Unser at a diner (Juice was holding Unser secretly at gunpoint), Juice asks what he had to do to be right with the club again. Chibs responds with: "If I were you, I’d take that gun, put it in my mouth, and pull the trigger."

Jax, after being voted to "meet Mr. Mayhem" for killing the SOA Indian Hills president, Jury White, hands over SAMCRO's presidency to Chibs.

Motorcycles[]

Like Bobby 'Elvis' Munson, Chibs has more than 1 motorcycle, but uses his Dyna more often. This is a Harley Davidson Dyna Street Bob. It has matte black painted custom Z-Bars with risers. Along with Bobby, Chibs is one of the only two members of the Charming chapter not to have the front drag fairing. He has the Saltire embroidered on the rear of his seat to show his true roots back to Scotland. The Dyna was blown up by Galen, along with Jax and Happy's bike, when he was showing the Galindo cartel their weapons.

Chibs' other bike, like Bobby, is a Harley Davidson Touring Street Glide, which first appeared in season 3. He uses this instead of his Dyna for long runs with the club.

In the Mayans MC episode "Kukulkan", Chibs now owns a black roadking with ape hangers, and a large grey anarchy symbol on the gastank.

Trivia[]

  • Chibs states that "Chibs" is Scottish slang for "street blade".
  • In Seeds, when Clay gives everyone money, Chibs says "All about the Benjamins", which is a movie that Tommy Flanagan starred in in 2002.
  • After the episode Red Rose, during which Juice is killed in prison, Chibs, along with Jax and Tig, were the only remaining original members of SAMCRO from Season One. By the end, he and Tig are the only members left, due to Jax's suicide in the finale.
    • Likewise, he and Tig are the only main cast members from season one to survive the series.
  • Chibs is the fourth President of SAMCRO, and the first President not from the First 9 or a member of the Teller family.
  • Chibs has held more positions than any other known member of the Sons of Anarchy. He held the title of Sergeant-at-Arms, then Vice President, and later President of a charter. He also went through the most ranks out of any other member, starting the series off as just a Full Patch, though he was officially known as the club medic, until Tara stepped in around this time as well.
    • Bobby is the only member to contend with him in terms of positions held, being the Club Secretary, Vice President, and acting President, albeit very briefly.
  • Arie Verveen, who played Liam O'Neill in Season 3, appeared along side Tommy Flanagan in the movie "Sin City," appearing as a group of Irish mercenaries.
  • Happy revealed that Chibs was the one who betted on Chucky in a card game against Coco in "Xbalanque".
  • When Chibs appears on Mayans M.C., he seems to be wearing Clay's golden air force pin on his kutte. This makes little sense as Chibs was never in the US military, Clay has been dead for about 5 years and he had been excommunicated from the club, Chibs would not have been wearing the pin as a sign of respect.
