After witnessing her entire family being murdered by the Galindo Cartel, Adelita becomes an activist against them, choosing to take care of children who are victims of the Cartel's violence by joining or starting the group, Los Olvidados.

As time goes on, Luisa realises she will never be able to destroy the cartel, she instead partners with their leader Miguel Galindo, making an offer he can't refuse. The pair agree to make sure that money gained from their illicit activities goes to the people that need it.

By season five, Luisa is desperately trying to battle being a mother and working a dangerous job for another cartel, who do no good with their money. Luisa is often tasked with collection of money from poppy fields. A woman refers to her as "the Devil", this is exactly what Luisa used to refer to Miguel and the Galindo Cartel as when she was leading Los Olvidados. Luisa has essentially become the very thing she swore to destroy all those years ago.

Angel, EZ and the two other Mayans who are aware of the Los Olvidados partnership, Johnny "Coco" Cruz and Gilberto "Gilly" Lopez meet up with Adelita to try and get an explanation as to why she had Miguel's son kidnapped. Angel is frustrated that Adelita didn't tell him this was going down, he also hints that something romantic might be going on between the pair.

Adelita and Pablo are taking stock of their supplies, there food and money are running low. They suddenly hear vehicles approaching and take cover and arm up, they are relieved to see it is just Angel, EZ and Coco. Angel explains that he may have found a buyer for the stolen drugs to get the Los Olvidados some much needed funding.

Los Olvidados later head in to the town square to purchase supplies, Mini, a young girl and a member of Los Olvidados, wants to bring another young boy, Andres back with them as she claims that the father and son killed by the cartel where his father and brother. Coco, EZ, Pablo and Adelita return to the house to free Angel. The four are detained immediately while the heroin is checked. The rest head outside where the cops are jumped by Los Olvidados members who breach the house and kill the cops.

"Gato/Mis"[]

Adelita is very grateful as the organisation was quickly running out of funding. Angel tells her they need to speak and she invites him inside. Angel admits that he is walking a very fine line within the club and they may be starting to suspect him, he wants Adelita to tell him everything that is going on. Adelita reveals to Angel that her real name is Luisa Espina and invites him to sit and she will explain everything.

Luisa and some Los Olvidados members including Pablo, Mini and Andres head out to buy supplies and make drops.

Luisa later calls the Galindo household, she explains that she represents Los Olvidados and has the demands to return Cristobal. Adelita demands 7 million pesos in cryptocurrency and that Miguel crosses the border to Mexico alone and then she will tell him where his son is.

Luisa and Pablo watch the CCTV cameras as Miguel arrives at the crossing. They call him to confirm that the money had been received, she directs Miguel to where Cristobal is and ends the call.

Luisa and Pablo watch from a rooftop as cartel henchmen breach a nearby warehouse. Luisa turns to Andres and removes the coordinates from her pocket, she questions the boy before telling him she knows he is not related to the bodies that were dumped in the square. Andres begs forgiveness from Luisa and Mini before Mini pushes him from the roof, he falls to his death.

"Cucaracha/K'uruch"[]

Luisa drives with Angel and EZ in the back of a van. She questions the brothers about their family before asking them to pull over, she gets in to a car as the brothers leave.

Luisa arrives at the house of Felipe Reyes, the father of EZ and Angel. She addresses Felipe as Ignacio before revealing a gun and asking him to sit. She takes out a torn photo of Felipe in his younger years with another man and explains its a photo she got from her father's box which he kept in a vent, the same vent where she hid whilst her family was murdered by the cartel. Luisa introduces herself as Adelita and Felipe knows who she is. Felipe questions how she found him and Luisa explains that it was due to his sons and their involvement in Los Olvidados. Luisa explains that Angel and EZ have no idea she is there and thinks meeting him was a random act. Felipe plays ignorant and demands Luisa explain what she wants.

Luisa explains that in 1988 her father, Pedro, left Mexico to flee to Venezuela where he met Luisa's mother under a new identity, nobody knew who he was. Luisa explains that when she was 6, cartel members attacked the family home and slaughtered everyone. The cartel squad leader explained to Pedro before he was killed that he was betrayed by a close friend. Felipe realises that she thinks he was responsible for selling out Pedro but explains to Luisa she should see something. Luisa questions what this is and he calmly responds that it is the rest of the picture that Luisa had.

Felipe opens a box of his own and takes out a copy of the same picture, where Pedro and Felipe can now be seen posing with three severed heads. Felipe has a host of other pictures of dead cartel victims. He explains that he was not in the cartel but had "sold his soul" to them. He tells Luisa that Marisol Reyes, his lover was also pregnant with their first son, Angel Reyes; and so chose to leave also. Felipe solemnly tells Luisa that he left but Pedro stayed, he didn't have a family and loved the money. He never knew what became of Pedro. Luisa begins to cry and demands to know who else could have betrayed her father. Felipe shows her another picture, one of himself and Pedro with a priest called Rodrigo. Rodrigo helped Felipe leave his old life behind and perhaps he did the same for Pedro. Upon seeing the picture Luisa is sick, knowing Rodrigo, he is an ally of Los Olvidados. Felipe asks Luisa that if is she is going to kill him, to not do it in his home. Luisa asks if she can have the picture of the three men and Felipe nods, Luisa goes to leave as the pair apologise to each other. She finally asks Felipe if her father was an animal, Felipe can't look her in the eye as he explains that they didn't start out like that.

Luisa travels to the border where Miguel is being held, she awaits his arrival as he is bought in by guards. He demands to know where his son is and he learns Cristobal is safe. Miguel tells Luisa that if she wanted him dead he already would be and Luisa confirms. A shocked Miguel hears that Luisa wants to work with the cartel. He sits as she shows him a live feed of some of his drug plants, Miguel continues to ask questions and Luisa answers by blowing up his various drug locations. Miguel scoffs as he questions Luisa asking her if she thinks that a few locations will impact his business. His confusion grows when Luisa affirms that she knows it won't do anything before showing even more locations, Miguel's whole operation. She tells him that all of those locations will matter and then Lobos Sonora, a rival cartel will usurp the Galindo Cartel all whilst Miguel is fighting a drugs charge. Miguel asks in disbelief if this was Luisa's plan all along and she confirms. Luisa explains the only way violence stops is if Los Olvidados and the cartel unite to stamp out other evil and simply point their own in the right direction. They will make a fortune and will give it to the people who deserve it.

Miguel isn't opposed to the idea of peace but wonders how they can trust each other, Luisa explains that they tell the truth, she reveals her real name to Miguel. She understands that trust won't come easily so they should have a third party to assist in operations. She leaves this decision up to Miguel and she leaves.

As Miguel is released from custody he passes by Luisa on his way out, she tells him that she'll be in touch, he nods and silently leaves.

"Serpiente/Chikchan"[]

The club and cartel head out to the casino to meet with Miguel for the first time since he was released from custody. They sit down and he begins explaining that he has signed a deal, similar to one that his father signed 10 years ago. He goes on to explain that while he was detained at the border he was approached by someone else and offered a deal, that person was Adelita, better known as Luisa. The club are astounded at what they are seeing and hearing. Luisa then addresses everyone in attendance and her and Miguel confirm they are no longer enemies but are in fact partners. After the meeting Luisa meets the Mayans, feigning introductions when she speaks with Gilly, Coco and Angel.

Outside Luisa speaks with Angel, he congratulates her but she insists it was thanks to him. Luisa leaves in a car with Nestor.

As they exit the car Miguel introduces Luisa to Devante Cano, one of his close advisors. He then reveals another truth to Devante, that Adelita is the daughter of Pedro Espina, whom Devante killed years ago, and that he is being offered as retribution in order to deepen the trust between the cartel and Los Olvidados.

Miguel then offers Adelita a machete to enact her vengeance just like he killed her father with, to settle the family debt with her. Devante is later seen decapitated by Adelita.

Mini asks if it’s true she was working for the cartel, and Adelita admits she was because she was forced to. However, she used her time with the LNG to get the farmers ready for Mini. She’s brought the money she stole from the LNG to Mini so that she can help the farmers. “They need a leader. They need Adelita,” says Adelita, meaning Mini should take over her spot as the leader. Mini finally gets up and approaches Adelita, and Adelita caresses her face. “You really are…Adelita,” says Adelita. “And you are the devil,” replies Mini, taking Adelita by surprise and stabbing her multiple times in the stomach. Mini continues to stab Adelita long after it appears that she’s dead.
