"A Crow Flew By" is the fourth episode of season four of Mayans MC, a spinoff of the FX original series Sons of Anarchy, and the series' thirty-fourth episode overall.
Synopsis[]
Internal strife bleeds into club business; an old enemy has found sanctuary South of the border.
Plot[]
We pick up immediately where we left off in the previous episode, with the Mayans surrounding Randall as he bleeds out.
Manny and EZ realize why Angel shot him, and Manny tells the older Reyes brother he did the right thing. EZ takes in the big picture and knows this is going to screw up things between the Mayans and Banquero. It’s revealed Noah isn’t Randall’s son. Manny puts another bullet into Randall’s nearly dead body, finishing the job Angel started. “Let the coyotes take care of this piece of shit,” says a disgusted Manny. He simply explains they'll drop Noah off and he can call his parents.
Morning arrives and Coco and Hope are still clean and still living together. She asks for a ride home from work that evening because it’s a sketchy area and Coco agrees. They kiss and he heads off to the club.
The club return to Templo and a furious Canche demands to know who pulled the trigger. After a brief pause, Angel admits he did, but Manny adds that he finished him off. EZ steps forward and says it was his call since he’s the ranking officer. Canche’s controlled but furious, blaming Alvarez for giving power to EZ. Alvarez stands up for his guys, informing Canche they don’t run protection for paedophiles and telling EZ, Manny, and Angel they did the right thing. He gavels the meeting to a close, but Canche has to have the last word. “What they did, Padrino, is kill the pipeline and maybe every motherfucker in this room,” says Canche.
Alvarez tells his Santo Padre guys to stay seated to deliver some news which Angel takes incredibly badly. Nestor is their new prospect! He looks weird in a Mayans cut and Angel orders him to get him a beer, calling him a French braid little bitch.
The guys are hanging out in the clubhouse when Canche orders Manny to return to his true family in Yuma. He doesn’t like Manny getting so close to Santo Padre and, in particular, EZ. Manny says his goodbyes to EZ and seems genuinely sorry to leave. He jokes about EZ stabbing him and throwing him off the roof and getting stuck in the desert with a paedophile, but doesn’t have any hard feelings and says he enjoyed their time together
Coco has a one-on-one with Alvarez and Alvarez acknowledges Coco’s been putting in the work and staying clean. Alvarez gives Coco a special assignment to head to Oakland and represent Santo Padre with the fallen brothers. If he gets it right, Alvarez will give him back his bottom rocker.
Bishop stew's at the bar and lightly flirts with Treenie, one of the new bar girls and Gaeta's widow.
As Yuma head out, EZ catches Canche on his way out. Canche is furious at EZ for his call and the past run ins they have had together. EZ attempts to tell Canche he wants to put their past behind them for the club, but Canche isn't so sure. In fact he isn't sure at all and coldly tells EZ he doesn't care what title Alvarez gives him, he will always be dead to him for what he did to his son. Otero and Canche leave, to go and visit Banquero to try and explain what went wrong. Canche and Otero makes their trip to Mexico and apologise to Banquero for Randall’s death. He promises the Mayans will do whatever it takes to make it up to him, reminding him they have a good thing going. Banquero responds by shooting the television. Banquero doesn’t say a word and Canche backs slowly out of the cartel leader’s house, knowing not to outstay their welcome.
Alvarez and EZ return to the table to talk. EZ admits he doesn’t know why Alvarez made him VP and Alvarez explains it’s because EZ has a good vision of what the club can be. However, he lacks knowledge of their history and rules. Alvarez started the club so they’d have something of their own. EZ needs to understand Mayans M.C. history to grasp what it means to wear the club’s kutte. "Like my friend Jax once said, ‘Forget the past and you’re doomed to repeat it,’” says Alvarez. EZ corrects Alvarez and says the quote actually comes from Jorge Santayana. Alvarez gives EZ the Mayans M.C. history book and tells him to read it.
Jess spills some beer and Taza Hank ask if she’s okay. She’s jittery but says she’s fine. Taza confesses to Hank he doesn’t even recognize the club anymore and Hank believes they’re being tested. He’s not sure they’ll make it. The pair exchange glances with Hector and Downer, two Mayans from other charters.
Cielo thinks Jess is still sick and sends her home. Jess steps outside and calls Terry. She’s nervous about spying on Santo Padre and tries to back out but he won’t let her. She finally tells him she may have heard something useful.
EZ interrupts Bishop and Treenie doing shots and tries to mend the relationship with Bishop, but Bishop suggests he shove his apology up his ass. EZ punches Bishop in the face, knocking him from his chair. He tells Bishop he needs to respect his VP and tells the guys who hold Bishop back to educate their ex-presidente.
Later that night, EZ talks with Angel, he wonders if Angel should be spending time with his family, knowing their baby is coming soon. Angel brushes him off and explains to EZ that if he isn't there, he can't make a mess of things. He is clearly very anxious about his future. EZ offers some words of advice and tells Angel to go home and see Nails.
Felipe receives a postcard from Gaby, “I got the internship! Company isn’t as good as the carniceria, but there’s less blood. I miss you.”
EZ shows up at Felipe's butcher shop and all the shelves are empty. As his dad makes his way into the front of the shop EZ picks up the postcard from Gaby. He takes off before they can talk, leaving the postcard behind on the floor.
Creeper goes on a date with Kody, the lady he met at NA. The pair flirt and Kody inquires more about Creeper's club. He explains that he sometimes feels like he's the black sheep and doesn't really fit in.
Gilly shows up at the birthday party for the son of an old friend. He has a good time catching up and hanging out with his old military buddies and is told not to wait so long before his next visit. He admits to Rae, his former captain that his the MC is the closest thing he could find to a brotherhood stateside. Gilly’s friend tries to soothe his conscience and it’s revealed he has PTSD from something that happened during a tour of duty. Their talk is interrupted when Paul, Gilly's friend and Rae's husband engages in a fist fight with a neighbourhood dad. Paul also suffers from severe PTSD and is prone to violent outbursts.
We finally get another glimpse at Miguel, he looks nothing like his normally well-put-together self and is making a rock wall in an old cemetery. Miguel notices a kid, Tomas watching him from the bushes and shows off his juggling skills. Minutes later Miguel launches into an explanation of why he’s building a wall, saying the dead need to be cared for too. It’s revealed Miguel’s gone to ground at a convent where his aunt is a nun. They have a good relationship and joke about him needing to confess his sins. Apparently, he’s always been her favourite nephew and was a precocious child.
Later that day Miguel’s past appears to have caught up with him. Truckloads of armed men arrive at the convent and Miguel’s forced to hide as the nuns attempt to calm the situation. The men demand “Martin” and his son, Tomas, saying they’ve crossed the LNG. So, they haven’t discovered Miguel’s hideout after all. Miguel’s aunt is able to get them to leave without any bloodshed.
Bishop and Treenie bond by doing coke in the clubhouse.
Hope steps outside, her shift finally finished, but Coco isn't seen anywhere to drive her home, she begins to walk.
Angel heads home, and has a horrendously awkward interaction with Felipe as the pair eat cake. Nails head to bed to try and get the pair to talk.
Gilly returns to the clubhouse, and can't leave fast enough; as he is greeted by the sight of Bishop and Treenie going at it on the pool table.
Alvarez is at home with his family, Izzy, Alvarez' wife tells him that she is inviting Bishop for dinner next week, Alvarez is annoyed but Izzy won't back down. A ring on the doorbell interrupts their evening, it is EZ. He tells Alvarez that he has read the book Alvarez gave him and wants to reinstate the "killswitch" bylaw, an old rule that allows a Presidente to be removed from a charter if everyone else votes against them. He cites weaknesses such as Bishop and Canche dragging the club down in his reasoning. Alvarez seemingly agrees to reinstate the killswitch bylaw.
Terry sits in a car, Doc soon arrives and sits beside him. He explains that Chibs has given the greenlight for the Sons to attack the Mayans after the evidence of Montez being killed at the hands of the Mayans is presented to him. Doc seems angry with the decision and quickly leaves.

Templo Meetings[]
Canche: Who pulled the trigger? Who pulled the fucking trigger?!
Angel: I did.
Manny: Fucker, I did. I made sure the motherfucker was dead.
EZ: I was the ranking officer there, it was my call. It's on me.
Canche: This is who you give power to? This is who you trust? What the fuck am I supposed to tell El Banquero?
Alvarez: You tell him we don't run protection for kid touchers. Hurting kids... You all did the right thing. (bangs gavel)
Canche: What they did, Padrino; is kill the pipeline. And maybe every motherfucker in this room.
Alvarez: Santo Padre... Hang back. There's one more thing.
(not technically a Templo meeting)
Coco: You wanted to see me?
Alvarez: Sit down.
Coco: (sits)
Alvarez: I want you to know that I've been watching you, keeping your head down, putting in the work. Staying clean.
Coco: I'm just trying to get right with the club.
Alvarez: The club. The club is all of us. Not one person, not one charter. These selfish fucks putting in their own resentments, their own bullshit first, threatening to destroy what better men than them have built. Are you here to build, or are you here to destroy? I'm sending you to Oakland. Be a representative for us, for the fallen brothers. Help build a bridge between Santo Padre and the rest of the club. You good with that?
Coco: Fuck yeah, I am.
Alvarez: Good.
Coco: (stands)
Alvarez: And Coco. You get this right, your bottom rocker might be waiting for you when you get back, huh.
Coco: Gracias, Padrino.
